Plennik Film is a film company created in 2013 by Tracy McDonald of McMaster University. After a hiatus from her former company, Chemodan Films, of which she was a founding member and worked on four documentary films between 2005 and 2009, McDonald had ventured out on her own. The company takes its name from the Russian word for prisoner. Film is the creative solution to break the prison bars. Inspiration for the film projects has been rooted in McDonald’s own historical and archival research and in the conviction that many of these stories need to be seen to be believed and, even more, seen to be understood.
